“Prima delle prime” podcast: Manon, 13 June 2012

25 June 2012

If you missed our “Prima delle prime” conference held on June 13, 2012 at La Scala’s boxes foyeryou can now listen to the audio recording of the lecture “Le malie della femme fatale”, in which Italian musicologist and Stage performance professor Laura Cosso speaks about Jules Massenet’s Manon. For the audio content, see below on this page.

From the libertine novel of the Abbé Prévost to the opera-comique, Jules Massenet’s Manon (1884) is a “sphinx étonnant”, an astounding creature. Her tangle of purity and malice is made unique and immortal by the music’s fluidity, either sung or spoken, either in a neoclassical style or in a romantic expression. The opera was brilliantly presented by Laura Cosso in her “Prima delle prime” lecture titled “Le malie della femme fatale”.
